Wine reviews
Scents of cedar, mocha and dark chocolate bubble up on the nose of Stewart's 2021 Nomad Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard, but there are also some bright cherry aromas that balance those out and provide a refreshing sense of balance. It's still a full-bodied, well-ripened Cabernet, velvety and intense, but there's a freshness and vibrancy on the finish here that some of Stewart's other Nomad wines seem to lack.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 22 months in 90% new French oak from the 4.8ha Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard in the southern portion of the St. Helena AVA. At 15.2%, it offers the lowest alcohol levels of the three Nomad series wines I sampled from Stewart Cellars for the 2021 Napa Cabernet vintage report. While the Beckstoffer To Kalon bottling is the standout, this comes in second. Plenty of rich blue and black fruits mingle with flashy cedar wood notes. Opulent, full-bodied, and packed with chocolaty oak notes, blueberry compote, and blackberry liqueur. Perfect for those nights when hedonistic wine is all you crave. Best at cellar temperature.
Black currants, plums, sweet tobacco, and chocolate notes all emerge from the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon NOMAD Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a site just outside of St. Helena. Brought up in new French oak, it's ripe, full-bodied, and already hard to resist. All Cabernet Sauvignon aged 22 months in 90% new French oak, drink bottles over the coming 15+ years.
