Wine reviews
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is on another level and is a sensational effort that will be flirting with perfection at maturity. From a Grand Cru site outside of St. Helena, it has a riveting perfume of crème de cassis, blueberries, spring flowers, and darker chocolate. Full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful on the palate, it nevertheless has beautiful balance, the vintage's vibrant, pure profile, ripe tannins, and a great, great finish. Give bottles 2-4 years (if not a touch more) and enjoy over the following two decades. – JD
A wine that looks like pure perfection is the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up all in new Taransaud barrels. Cassis, graphite, smoky black fruits, loamy earth, and green tobacco all make an appearance on the nose, and it's full-bodied, deep, and layered, with perfectly ripe, polished tannins. Unfortunately, there are a scant two barrels made (50 cases), so count yourself lucky if you can latch onto a few bottles. – JD
