The 2020 Chardonnay Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard Reserve only utilized 40% new French oak, with the balance being once-used barrels. The oak is relatively subtle on the nose, adding just hints of toasted hazelnuts and caramel to the bold fruit notes of pineapple, peach and melon. Medium to full-bodied, this is a big, bold wine, mouthfilling and rich yet with an overall sense of harmony and drinkability. Nicely done. – JC
