Wine reviews
Seen here as a barrel sample, the deep garnet-purple colored 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard slips seductively out of the glass with floral scents of lavender and lilacs over a core of warm cassis, redcurrant jelly, black raspberries and cinnamon toast with a hint of underbrush. Wow—the impactful, full-bodied palate is velvety, seamless, poised and layered, finishing long, long, long. This could well be a Dr. Crane legend in the making. – LPB
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Crane Vineyard shows plenty of green tobacco, chocolate, and damp earth notes with lots of classic Cabernet bell pepper and cedar. It’s full-bodied, concentrated, and textured, with terrific balance. There are more pyrazines here than you usually find in Russell’s wines, but it’s nevertheless a beautiful barrel sample. – JD

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard offers lots of classic Cabernet herbalness and pyrazines in its profile. Blackcurrants, green tobacco, chocolate, cedar pencil, and sappy flower notes give way to a full-bodied, seamless beauty with terrific tannins, a layered, balanced mouthfeel, and a great finish. There’s certainly a greener edge to it, but it handles it nicely, and it will be interesting to see how this evolves. – JD
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is the crown jewel in this year's collection of Bevan releases. Hints of green coffee bean and sage accent hugely ripe flavors of black cherries and cassis on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is impossibly plush, wonderfully supple and richly textured, leading into a decadently long finish. – Joe Czerwinski
