Based on 100% Cabernet brought up in 75% new French oak, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is another gem, ranking with the top wines of the vintage. More reserved aromatically, yet with sensational purity in its assorted dark fruits, espresso, violet, and flowery incense aromas, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a plush, opulent texture, building tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s no lightweight, yet it has a rare mix of power and elegance. This Grand Cru site in Oakville excelled in 2018, and this beauty is going to benefit from 2-4 years in the cellar and cruise for two decades. – JD
