Wine reviews
From an amazingly warm, rocky site, this wine swarms in velvety baked layers of crushed rock, iron and earth. The exuberantly vibrant yet rich core weaves together notes of cocoa powder, currant, black pepper and tobacco. Drink 2028-2033. Cellar Selection. – VB
Ripe and focused, with a red currant and plum fruit core wrapped in red licorice and backed by applewood and sweet tobacco accents on the finish. Subtle iron twinge runs underneath too. Well built. Drink now through 2032. 150 cases made. – JM
All Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Nomad Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard comes from one of the great vineyards in the valley and spent 24 months in 95% new French oak. This deep purple-hued beauty offers up a beautiful perfume of ripe black cherry and cassis fruits as well as classy tobacco, new oak, cedar pencil, and violets, with some loamy earth and chocolate emerging with time in the glass. It's a classic 2018 on the palate and stays relatively focused and straight, with good concentration, ripe, polished tannins, and a wonderful sense of balance and purity. Give bottles another 3-5 years in the cellar, and it will evolve for another 20-25 years. – JD
