Wine reviews
A nicely understated style, offers a sleek, pure display of warm cassis and dark plum flavors that are also fresh and focused, while subtle anise, red tea and floral accents play a supporting role. The streamlined finish has latent length. Drink now through 2030. 350 cases made. – JM
From a great site outside of St. Helena, there are 175 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard, which has a killer bouquet of black raspberries and crème de cassis intermixed with beautiful spring flowers, unsmoked tobacco, and spice. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and with incredible elegance and purity, it offers building tannins, flawless balance, and stunning length. A gorgeous wine in every sense, it's going to benefit from 2- 3 years of bottle age and just sing for 20-25 years or more.
I was able to taste three 2018 barrel samples, all showing beautifully. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard has thrilling aromatics of cassis, burning embers, scorched earth, and spring flowers that develops and changes in the glass. This is a full-bodied, powerful 2018 that has ample mid-palate concentration, fine tannins, and perfect balance. The 2018 vintage yielded elegant, seamless wines, which this certainly is, yet it also has depth and length.
