2018 Paul Hobbs  Cabernet Sauvignon
Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard
Wine Spectator 96 Points
October 2022

Vivid, detailed flavors of cassis, kirsch and fig paste pump along, laced with alder, cocoa and tobacco notes. The fruit melds nicely with a serious tug of warm loam through the finish, giving this a smoldering edge at the very end. Shows nice character. Best from 2022 through 2038. 688 cases made. – JM

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is deep garnet-purple in color, slowly unfurling to reveal a nose of warm cassis, freshly crushed blackberries, black cherries and mulberries with touches of pencil lead, bay leaves, Indian spices and cast-iron pan. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with exotic spices and black fruit preserves, structured by very firm, ripe, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note. – LPB

February 2020

Very deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard (a barrel sample) soars out of the glass with pronounced crème de cassis, blackberry tart and blueberry compote notes plus hints of chocolate box, cinnamon stick, rose oil and spice box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is densely laden with black fruit preserves and spicy accents, supported by firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with great length and depth. Possessing a lot more power than many 2018s, this is truly a show-stopper in the making! – LPB
