Wine reviews
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon sports a deep garnetpurple color, bursting from the glass with bold, flamboyant notions of boysenberries, blackcurrant pastilles, stewed plums and violets plus suggestions of allspice, cumin seed, forest floor and unsmoked cigars with a waft of potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an elegant powerhouse, quaking with the latent energy of restrained black fruit and earthy layers. It possesses seamless freshness and a fantastically long, fragrant earth and floral perfumed finish. It will require a good 3-5 years in cellar, but it will be well worth the wait. – LPB
From a site that performed brilliantly in 2018, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon raised in plenty of new French oak. Its dense purple color is followed by a monster of a wine that has full-bodied richness and depth as well as plenty of tannins, structure, and acidity, which isn't always common for this site. Offering a rich, primordial bouquet of blackcurrants, scorched earth, tobacco, and graphite, it has an incredible sense of minerality and it's your usual sexy To Kalon. It's mostly potential at this point and needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years, but it's a gorgeous, layered, complete wine that's going to evolve for 20-30 years. – JD
