The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Bam is a little closed and broody to begin, slowly opening to offer glimpses at earthy notes of tar, tilled soil and black truffles over a core of crème de cassis, cast-iron pan, baked blackberries, sautéed herbs and fruitcake plus a touch of espresso. Full-bodied, the palate has a rugged frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness supporting the concentrated, muscular fruit, finishing long and savory. – LPB
