2018 Lithology Lithology Cabernet Franc
Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard
Wine Spectator 89 Points
January 2022

Frankly ripe, with a big gush of steeped plum and blackberry compote flavors, coated liberally with singed vanilla and ganache notes, which leave a slightly burly feel through the muscular finish. Offers more oomph than purity. Best from 2023 through 2035. 529 cases made. – JM

The 2018 Lithology Cabernet Franc To Kalon Vineyard erupts with notes of plum preserves, raspberry coulis and blackberry pie, plus hints of molten licorice, warm chocolate, menthol and incense. The full-bodied palate has impressive freshness and energy, delivering loads of black and red berry preserves layers and a spicy undercurrent, finishing long with a mineral lift. – LPB

While this site is known for its incredible Cabernet Sauvignon, today, it also produces some of the finest Cabernet Franc in the world. The 2018 Cabernet Franc Lithology Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard offers a crazy bouquet of wildflowers, violets, tobacco, crème de cassis, and assorted darker berry fruits. Full-bodied, ultra-fine, and perfectly balanced, with thrilling tannins, it’s another “do not miss” wine. The blend is 87% Cabernet Franc and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon that was fermented in a mix of tank and puncheons and aged 20 months in 75% new French oak. I’m probably underrating this by a point. – JD
