2017 Krutz Family Cabernet Sauvignon
Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard
Jeb Dunnuck 94-96 Points
January 2019

Cut from the same cloth as the 2016, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III is still aging in 80% new French oak and offers similar cassis and blue fruits as well as plenty of cedar and lavender nuances, full-bodied richness, terrific purity and depth of fruit, and sweet tannins. The 2017s can be more hit or miss but this is a brilliant looking barrel sample. – JD

A barrel sample of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 75% new French oak for 23 months, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard opens with red and black currants, black berries, plums and camphor with red fruit accents. It's earthy in the full-bodied mouth with firm, grainy tannins and finishes lively, long and earthy. 300 cases are estimated to be made. – LPB

Moving to the Bordeaux variety releases, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard boasts a saturated purple color as well as classic Cabernet notes of ripe dark fruits, chocolate, cedary herbs, and tobacco. It’s medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, and is a balanced, ageworthy 2017. This cuvée is all Cabernet Sauvignon, from the B2B block of this historic vineyard, and was brought up all in French oak. – JD
