2017 Carter Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon The O.G.
Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard
The Wine Advocate 92 Points
October 2019

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The O G is a bit closed and broody to begin, unfurling to reveal baked plums, warm cassis and blackberry pie scents with hints of sautéed herbs, licorice, salami and Sichuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied, it has softly played tannins and bags of savory flavors, finishing on a peppery note. – LPB

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The O.G. comes all from clone 337 and a parcel that Carter has used since 2000. This is an older planting with slightly less density, yet it’s produced a ripe, powerful, sexy wine loaded with notions of dark fruits, dark chocolate, tobacco, and spicy incense. It picks up a touch of Graves-like gravelly minerality with time in the glass and is full-bodied, rich, and expansive on the palate, all making for a brilliant 2017 to enjoy over the coming 20+ years. – JD
