Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is just a little closed to begin, soon opening out to reveal expressive blackberry pie, blueberry preserves and spice box scents with hints of tobacco, dried herbs and dusty soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness supporting the taut black fruits, finishing with an earthy/herbal lift.
Sweet, opulent notes of crème de cassis, flowery incense, spice, and forest floor notes all emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon, another deep, powerful, opulent 2017 from the genius of Jean Hoefliger. With loads of fruit, ripe tannins, no hard edges, and a stacked mid-palate, it’s a huge success in this vintage to enjoy over the coming 15 years or more. – JD
