Wine reviews
A true blockbuster, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon NOMAD Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard comes from a terrific valley floor site and spent 22 months in 80% new French oak. It’s a ripe, full-bodied, powerful effort that has awesome notes of chocolaty black fruits, smoke tobacco, graphite, and earth. Possessing loads of fruit, sweet tannins, and a seamless, weightless texture, it’s a thrill a minute and already impossible to resist, and I see no need to delay gratification. Drink this total sexpot over the coming 15-20 years. – JD
Juicy and compact, featuring a dense core of currant paste and blackberry compote flavors wrapped in notes of alder, singed tobacco leaf and licorice root. Exhibits solid drive through the finish, with the fruit matching the earthy components. Best from 2020 through 2030. 195 cases made. – JM
Deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Nomad Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper reveals a a wonderfully spicy nose to begin, with cumin seed, black pepper, cloves, fenugreek and cinnamon stick over a core of warm blackcurrants, baked black cherries and dark chocolate plus hints of cast iron pan and charcoal. Fullbodied, the palate reveals a solid frame of super ripe, grainy tannins and bags of freshness supporting the minerallaced black fruits, finishing long and spicy. – LPB
