A barrel sample, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard reveals an inky purple color and is scented of tar, black soil and chargrill over a core of crème de cassis, blackberry pie and dark chocolate mints, plus a waft of violets. The big, rich, generously endowed palate offers mouth-filling black fruit and earthy flavors supported by firm, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and layered. – LPB
