Wine reviews
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard is a step or two up from the 2015. An infusion of inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, crushed rocks and cloves flows onto the palate. Deep and resonant, with tons of character, the 2016 is shaping up to be a beauty. – Antonio Galloni
A barrel sample composed of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc, to be aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon offers up exuberant fruitcake, blackberry pie and preserved plums note with hints of Chinese five spice and lavender. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and opulent in the mouth, it has firm yet velvety tannins and a lively backbone lifting the seductive flavors through the long finish. 155 cases will be made. – LPB
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is an elegant wine from this vineyard, which normally produces powerful, exotic wines. Pure crème de cassis, spring flowers, caramelized cherries, and white flower notes all flow to a full-bodied effort that has silky tannins, a polished texture, no hard edges, and a great finish. It’s another perfectly balanced wine from Tony Biagi that can be drunk any time over the coming 15-20 years. – JD
Probably even better, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley To Kalon Vineyard is a big, opulent beauty that offers killer amounts of blueberries, black cherries, incense and damp earth. There's an almost Pomerol-like earthiness. This full-bodied red, packed with depth, has a great finish and is a seriously good barrel sample. – JD
