2010 Carter Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon The Grand Daddy
Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard
Wine Advocate 97 Points
October 2013

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The Grand Daddy reveals classic, uplifted floral, forest floor and black currant aromatics, a creamy, full-bodied texture with terrific definition and laser-like precision, and remarkable purity, richness and overall gravitas. It can be drunk now or cellared for two decades or more. For a number of years, this has been one of most impressive portfolios in Napa Valley, and as one might expect, the 2010s are outrageous offerings. - RP

A powerful, open-throttle Cabernet, brimming with intense flavors and sturdy tannins. Features lots of locked-down flavors, with hints of mocha, espresso, crushed rock and graphite. Begs for cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2024. 111 cases made. – JL

Despite its considerable early appeal, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The Grand Daddy is truly a wine for the future. The Grand Daddy is made in a more overt style than the O.G. Waves of sumptuous dark fruit, mocha, chocolate, sweet spices and violets all flow from the glass as this jammy, rich wine continues to open up in the glass. The 2010 shows off its dazzling richness and sheer concentration with tons of boldness. A total pleasure bomb, the 2010 is delicious today but it will be better in another few years. The Carter wines have proven to age well, and I have no doubt that will be the case here as well. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030. I was deeply impressed with these new releases from Mark Carter and his winemaker, Mike Smith, this year. -AG
