2010 Carter Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon The O.G.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The O.G. is insanely beautiful. Cool veins of minerality run through the wine, giving the 2010 a sense of energy that isn’t always present. Layers of dark fruit, mint, flowers and pencil shavings are all woven together in this magnificent, compelling wine. It is rare for such a big wine to also be restrained and impeccably balanced, but it’s all right here in the glass. The 2010 boasts striking inner perfume, phenomenal length and exceptional harmony. Hints of tar, asphalt, mint and violets add nuance on the finish. I loved it. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. I was deeply impressed with these new releases from Mark Carter and his winemaker, Mike Smith, this year. - AG

Offers understated black cherry, plum and blueberry at the core, yet its subtlety doesn't sacrifice depth and persistence, as the flavors sail on. Succeeds in a more subtle expression of To Kalon Cabernet. Drink now through 2028. 129 cases made. – JL

While similar to The Grand Daddy, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The O. G. is slightly less complex and more fruit-driven with floral, black raspberry and black currant notes as well as extraordinary elegance. If the Grand Daddy is more Pauillac-like, The O.G. is reminiscent of a Chateau Margaux. Full-bodied and concentrated, it is capable of 20-25 years of evolution. For a number of years, this has been one of most impressive portfolios in Napa Valley, and as one might expect, the 2010s are outrageous offerings. - RP
