The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon South Blocks is another super-ripe, opulent wine, but here the balance is much better than in the North Blocks. Blackberries, plums, tar, melted road tar and licorice wrap around the palate as this full-bodied wine flows from the glass. Clean mineral notes add a measure of freshness. The 2010 is big but beautiful. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Alpha Omega this year. The estate’s Cabernets are rich and full-bodied, yet also express plenty of site-specific character. - AG
