The 2009 TOR Kenward Beckstoffer To Kalon 'Old B' delivers loads of black cherries and sweet cassis along with hints of herbs and some subtle toasty notes. This shows stunning purity and depth, boasting a full body with supple tannins, yet it remains elegant and graceful straight through the long satisfying finish. (Drink 2013-2023)
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Old B wraps around the palate with layers of dark red fruit, smoke, tar, licorice and spices. This is a gorgeous and rather open, perfumed wine from To Kalon that convinces for its overall balance and finesse. Sweet, floral notes reappear on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. This is a dazzling set of wines from Tor Kenward and his long-time winemaker Jeff Ames. Frankly, I could have spent an entire afternoon delving further into these fabulous wines. The 2009 Cabernets capture the best qualities of this refined, polished vintage, but the 2010s, which I tasted from barrel, are potentially even better
Good ruby-red. Cassis, violet, minerals, licorice and bitter chocolate on the nose. In a cool, highly perfumed style, with terrific definition to the violet and crushed blackberry flavors. Finishes with firm but ripe tannins and superb length. This one should be long-lived.
