Wine reviews
Combines intensity and a firm tannic backbone, dialed in on vivid red fruits, with black cherry, raspberry and pomegranate. All neatly tapered on the finish, where red and black licorice fold in. Drink now through 2028. 150 cases made. –JL
Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, minerals and menthol. Sweet, lush and beautifully balanced; this should offer pleasure earlier than the Old B Block version. Strong licorice and graphite notes in the mouth and on the very long finish. The tannins here are very suave. Boasts wonderfully sweet fruit for a dry wine
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Clone 4 is a huge, implosive wine. Dark red berries, flowers and licorice take shape beautifully in the glass. Rich layers of fruit continue to saturate the palate in this impeccable Cabernet Sauvignon. Today the tannins are quite firm, which bodes very well for the future. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This is a dazzling set of wines from Tor Kenward and his long-time winemaker Jeff Ames. Frankly, I could have spent an entire afternoon delving further into these fabulous wines. The 2009 Cabernets capture the best qualities of this refined, polished vintage, but the 2010s, which I tasted from barrel, are potentially even better.
