Wine reviews
This Dr. Crane vineyard has really rocked in recent vintages. Enormously rich and deep, with a fabulous compaction of black currant, dark chocolate, baking spice and cedar flavors. There’s an interesting grilled meatiness, like the charred fat on a great steak, and lots of new oak, but it’s perfectly integrated. The smoky, toasty barrel notes are perfect companions to the fruit’s power. Drink this 100% Cab now and over the next 12–15 years. - SH
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard boasts gorgeous depth, power and richness, characterized by black fruit, cassis, grilled herbs tobacco incense and hints of exotic aromas and flavors. This full-bodied, opulent 2009 possesses plenty of round depth and power all the way through to the palate staining finish. This is a markedly better and more exciting wine than the Dr. Crane. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This is a strong set of wines from B Cellars. As always the wines are juicy, fruit-driven and bold. - AG
Pure, rich and focused, with firm, ripe dark berry, cherry, plum, blackberry, crushed rock and cedar flavors that show a dash of creamy oak. Well-focused and persistent on the finish, where the flavors linger. Drink now through 2024. 90 cases made. –JL
