2004 Provenance Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

Complex aromas of red and black currant are tight and concentrated, joined on the palate by herb, black olive and cedar notes. A big yet backward wine that should only get better. Decant for now. Drink now through 2012. 1,391 cases made. – J.L.

This has the depth of flavor of small-berry cabernet, the cool, dark-toned fruit of woodland black cherries. Tom Rinaldi worked that exceptional raw material into a smooth, curvaceous beauty, so it’s hard to tell where the Oakville terroir leaves off and the craft begins. The earthy tannins keep it real; their melting chocolate richness makes it accessible. Bank on it at your favorite steakhouse. Provenance Vineyards, Napa, CA
