Wine reviews
A dense, backward and therefore youthful expression, tightly wound, with earth, cedar, black licorice and blackberry notes. This is so very compact and dense as to put a hold note on drinking. The better of two bottles tasted. Drink now through 2024. 220 cases made.—J.L
Pure, ripe, clean currant, plum and wild berry fruit is supple, complex and elegant, with layers of dark berry fruit, a hint of chocolate and sage. Gains depth and momentum on the finish, which is long and graceful with fine-grained tannins. Best from 2010 through 2017. 220 cases made. -- J.L
(Barrel Tasting) A tremendous effort, this is ripe, rich, intense and powerful without being heavy or overwrought. Well-focused on the ripe currant and blackberry fruit, which is shaded by light toasty oak. Brings it all together on the finish, where the flavors are long and persistent. Score range: 92-94 –JL
Good full ruby-red. Superb, very dark aromas of cassis, blackberry, violet and menthol. Thick, supple and sweet, offering outstanding intensity and texture. Wonderfully fleshy, classy cabernet with a mounting finish in which the ripe tannins are buried under a wave of dark fruit flavors. Will this top the ’05?
