Wine reviews
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is a little youthfully shy at this nascent stage, slowly unfurling to reveal broody notes of tar, aniseed, Black Forest cake and lavender over an emerging core of black currant pastilles, stewed plums and espresso with a waft of crushed rocks. Full-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid foundation of firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, supporting the tightly wound black fruit and earthy layers, finishing long with a spicy kick. – LPB
I continue to love this vineyard, and the team at Alpha Omega has done a brilliant job with their 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard. More perfumed red and blue fruits, dried flowers, loamy soil, tobacco, and spice emerge on the nose, and this stunning wine is full-bodied, incredibly pure, seamless, and flawlessly balanced. It's not the typical blockbuster you find from Dr. Crane or To Kalon, but it's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and blow you away over the coming 20+ years. - JD
