Wine reviews
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard comes from a site just west of Dr. Crane and it shares plenty with that wine, offering red, black, and blue fruits, notes of ground herbs, earth, graphite, and dried tobacco, a rich, full mid-palate, building tannins, and a great finish. It too needs time. - JD
Very deep purple-black in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard gives up a broody nose of earthy/savory layers to begin, with notions of truffles, charcoal, forest floor and fertile loam over a core of blackcurrant pastilles, wild blueberries and black plums plus a touch of menthol. Full-bodied, tightly knit and firmly structured, it has soft acidity and restrained, savory flavors, finishing on an earthy note. – LPB
This leans toward the blackberry and black currant side of the spectrum, with a racy mineral edge buried throughout. Shows good energy and alluring black tea, anise and apple wood accents. Rock-solid. Best from 2022 through 2032. – JM
