Wine reviews
This has tiers of cassis, plum reduction and black cherry paste flavors interspersed with violet, licorice and coca accents. Everything melds seamlessly through the rich and detailed finish, with the violet note lingering the longest. Nicely done. Best from 2023 through 2034. 150 cases made. β J.M
More red and blue fruits as well as chalky minerality and floral notes emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Las Piedras Vineyard, another full-bodied, pure, and seamless wine from Kaplan. While this comes from a site just next to Dr. Crane, itβs dramatically different in style and has slightly more focus and elegance. It too will benefit from short-term bottle age and cruise in cold cellars. β JD
Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard needs a little coaxing to reveal scents of crushed blackberries, boysenberry preserves and fresh black currants, plus hints of underbrush and wild sage. The firm yet fine-grained textured palate is laden with full-bodied, generous black fruits, featuring bold freshness and lovely energy, finishing long and minerally. 150 cases were made. β LPB
