Wine reviews
Another brilliant Cabernet from this vintage is the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon NOMAD Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard, and it's possibly the finest wine I've tasted from this estate. Revealing a vivid purple hue as well as fabulous aromatics of pure crème de cassis, chocolate, unsmoked tobacco, and cedar pencil, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a rare mix of power and finesse, polished tannins, and a great, great finish. Drink bottles any time over the coming two decades. Give it plenty of air if drinking any time soon.
An initially muted floral tone develops into complex and cohesive aromas of iron, cigar and currant. Textured and lifted, it shows plenty of structure and graceful power that will do well to let settle further. Enjoy from 2028-2033. Cellar Selection.
Polished and soft-edged in feel, but with plenty of depth to its core of warmed plum sauce and steeped black cherry and blackberry fruit. Dark licorice and bittersweet cocoa accents coat the finish, where there's a loamy echo as well. Drink now through 2032. 150 cases made.
The dense purple-hued 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Nomad Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard offers up a great nose of both red and black fruits as well as baking spices, graphite, charcoal, and new leather. Full-bodied, focused, and incredibly elegant on the palate, I actually like the mouthfeel and tannins better here than with the Dr. Crane, although both are brilliant wines.
