The Cabernet Franc-based 2009 Red Blend Poetic Justice Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is quite a bit richer and fleshier than the Cabernet Sauvignon, from the same site. Freshly cut flowers, mint, espresso and raspberry jam all flesh out in this rich, dramatic wine. All the elements are in the right place. This is another great expression of Oakville. The intensity tapers off a bit on the finish, but not enough to materially detract from the wine’s winning personality. The blend is 74% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. Winemaker Timothy Milos delivers the goods with these fabulous 2009s and 2010s. The top wines, which are made from To Kalon and Dr. Crane fruit, are aged in 100% new oak barrels. From top to bottom, this is an impressive set of wines that deserves serious attention. - AG
